What's Your Obama Tax Cut?

posted by Peter Rothberg on 09/10/2008 @ 6:21pm

According to a recent Gallup poll, fifty-three percent of Americans expect their federal income taxes to increase if Barack Obama is elected president.

The truth: The Democratic candidate's plan would cut taxes for roughly 95 percent of American families, reports the non-partisan Tax Policy Center. How much would Obama save you? Check out ObamaTaxCut.com, a project of AlchemyToday.com, to use a nifty new tool that lets you calculate exactly what the Obama tax-cut would be worth to you.

  1. Well currently I'm unemployed which is soon to end. But I'm jut glad that since I won't make 250,000 or more, I'm gonna' get one at least. Although I'd rather make the 250,000 and pay a little more in taxes. Like Obama's family will when he imposes a tax increase on himself.

  3. Frankly, I wouldn't mind if our taxes DID go up. We need to invest in infrastructure that will help us live in the post-petroleum age: specifically, train tracks.

But of course, regardless of its level, taxation should always be progressive. People who make $10,000 a year should be taxed at a lower rate than people who make $100,000 a year. This stands to reason, though the plutocrats have invested much in making people swallow the unreason of "flat" taxes. Those who have are probably the same as those 53% who believe that Obama will raise their taxes.

Progressivity is, in fact, the most appealing thing about Obama's tax proposals. This is a man who knows how to make taxation fair.

Hannity has been running the Ayers story for almost a year but the media refuses to touch it and instead are focusing all their attention to a VP candidate's children and religion. Sickening. Can't we question Obama? And what about Tony Rezco and Obama's stinky deal on his house or the 14 million in taxpayer funds that Obama got for the Felon Rezco? no - not entirely.

i'm saying she was picked for

    a) her image and

    b) her ideology/theology - to "rally the base"

both have worked fine. she is physically attractive and definately represents well the extreme rightwing of the republican base.

not only does she follow the standard satano-aynrando secular republican ideology, but she also represents perfectly the rightwing christofascist wing of the party...

    1. she wants women who have been raped or impregnated as a result of incest to bear their unwanted children...

    2. she is against the genital warts vaccine and any mention of non abstinance methods of sex ed (look how well it worked for her family)

    3. she wants to ban books that disagree with her religious/political philosophy

    4. she wants to teach creation mythology in public schools

    5. she has shown a distinct vindictiveness in her dealings with those who disagree with her verging on if not crossing the line of legality

    6. apparantly like many of her fellow christofascist kooks (if she agrees with the theology of her chosen denomination) she looks forward to an apocalyptic hell in which all who dare not share her narrow beliefs will be burned, crushed, frozen, sliced, diced, splattered and smattered...

and who knows what else we will find out? once the reality of this kook and what she really truly stands for, represents...

i'm wondering if the gain in the party base will offset the loss in moderates who currently are seeing the facade.

    its going to come out...

and please, repugnants, keep this silly distracto thing going...i'm interested to see what happens...

  38. last time i looked at the mccain website i found no specifics on policy. just shallow glitzy BS and recounting his old war stoty.

often palin/mccain and the borderline tards of the right yap about how obama is an "Empty suite", all hope and no specifics, but if one actually listens to him one finds that this is a lie.

furthermore if one goes to his website one finds gobs and gobs and gobs of specifics in terms of policy...

so why does palin/mccain refuse to give irritating details on policy, yet constantly blabbulate about how obama has no details on policy?

    it must be either...

    1. just look at the bush administration...seems like at least the palin/mccain camp could have found some neocon docs and done some cuttin' 'n pastin'...

    or

    2. they have no specifics on policy - just a bunch of rightwing sloganeering and several subtlely different versions of "flippy mac and the evil gooks" or "mrs. mooseburger and grampa"...

The controversy began on Tuesday after Mr Obama said his rival was advocating change while pursuing the politics of the current Bush administration.

Mr Obama made the remark during a rally in Virginia where he accused the McCain campaign of trying suddenly to adopt the promise of change - a platform he himself has been running on for months.

Roger Stone: 'Obama Hurt Himself Very Badly' Wednesday, September 10, 2008 8:37 PM

    By: Ashley Martella

Veteran political consultant Roger Stone believes that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama shot himself in the foot with his remarks that Republican rival John McCain's campaign angrily charged he served up a low blow against McCain's running mate Sarah Palin.

"He ought to know by now that when a presidential candidate says anything at all, it's around the globe in seconds, thanks to the Internet," he tells Newsmax TV.

  80. "say what you want, but mention "Community Organiser" and eyes roll and wince, on BOTH sides of the aisle"

this is an absolutely ridiculous statement. when i was young, i fed the poor every weekend in soup kitchens in the neighborhoods where obama was a community activist. they are some of the worst neighborhoods in chicago. obama, instead of going to wall street or working in a high-profile law firm, decided to help the most vulnerable people in chicago improve their lives. this is indisputable. he was a tireless advocate of the poor. i simply do not understand why this is insignificant, and yet running a company is. obama had to go up against the most entrenched, corrupt, and patriarchal interests controlling the city of chicago.

and when giuliani belittled obama's service to his community (something mccain is championing via his vapid campaign slogan 'country first'), that was it for me. i realized then that the republican party is a bunch of fascistic, evil f*cktards.

  83. John Feehery, a Republican strategist, said the campaign is entering a stage in which skirmishes over the facts are less important than the dominant themes that are forming voters' opinions of the candidates.

"The more the New York Times and The Washington Post go after Sarah Palin, the better off she is, because there's a bigger truth out there and the bigger truths are she's new, she's popular in Alaska and she is an insurgent," Feehery said. "As long as those are out there, these little facts don't really matter."

This finds that 80 percent of the French want the Democrat candidate to win the US presidency while only eight percent favour John McCain.

The poll was carried out by TNS Sofres on September 2 and 3, before McCain benefited from the Sarah Palin bounce but it gives an idea of the overwhelming wish in France to see a President Obama take office. Eighty-six percent have a good opinion of him compared with only 35 percent for McCain.

"Does that mean that he would only represent the high-minded liberal ideals of the far left and ignore the rest of us? "

They don't have any alternative if they want to pay for their programs. If you like it, vote for them. If you don't vote against them.

I went to the tax policy institute and found that under Mcwars plan I will get a smaller tax cut than I would under Obama`s , the biggest fact is that under Mcwars the rich and powerful get a more sizable cut at 10 times more compared to my piddly 0.3 percent cut and not to mention the huge tax cuts for our greedy corporations so McWars loses on this issue and every other issue he doesn`t talk about because he is to busy slamming and lieing about Obama and doing the usuall re-puke diversion from the issues because they will lose if they run a decent campaign on the issues.

I'd like to note a couple of things here JM. First of all, that top 1% is waaaay the hell out of your league in finances from what you say in your posts. You're defending people who control politicians, influence elections with their power and money, and get exactly what they want 99.9% of the time. Basically, you are defending people who screw you over.

Secondly, I'd like to point out that we wouldn't have to pay so much in taxes if we quit spending so much God Damned money on defense and the pentagon. If we cut our defense spending in half, we'd still be outspending the other nations on the planet. If the U.S. really wants to turn the corner, we need to get out of the 1940's mindset. We aren't in WWII anymore. The terrorists are using homemade devices to fight with. If you really want to have a war on terror, instead of letting the military handle it, perhaps we could let our criminal element fight it. They'd improvise a hell of a lot better, and no the street warefare approach much better than the weenie heads in the pentagon.

The US has over 3,000 nuclear warheads. Why is that exactly? The Europeans say the US is the biggest threat to world peace. When Bush says we're establishing the first democracy in the middle east that's a lie. We destroyed the first democracy in the middle east.

Mohammed Mossadegh, the democratically elected president of Iran in the 1950's, had the audacity to nationalize the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. Uh-oh, no more cheap oil for the west.

The US stages a military coup in Iran - Mossadegh's government overthrown - The Shaw of Iran installed - cheap oil source restored - Iranians revolt - the Shaw flees the country - Ayatholla Komeini comes to power -American Embassy raided - US hostages taken - Carter refuses to trade arms for hostages - Reagan inaugrated - hostages released hours later.

Why do you suppose the Iranians don't trust us? Why do they reject our demand that they give up their quest for nuclear weapons? Why can we have 3000 but they can't have any? Who gave us the authority to say who can and who can't have them? We're the ony country to have ever used them.

Imagine that Iran made a pre-emptive strike Canada and occupied that nation. Imagine Iran had 3000 nuclear weapons, but said we can't have one. How would that make you feel?

I don't know about you but, when someone lies to me repeatedly, I distance my self from them. I am almost afraid to as my conservative friends if they recognize the plethora of naked lies spewed forth by McCain/Palin? If the answer is yes, then they condone lying. If they condone lying, by definition, I can't trust them. If I can't trust them, I must/I choose to remove myself from them. Don't they see the harm they are causing to relationships and the Grand Old Party by this Godless behavior. One important aspect of evil is facade or lying to protect one's image. 135. WOW! I think dissent is essential for maintaining a democracy, but I just can't phathom anyone believe that the only group of people who could fix all of the problems that the republican party has caused and wants to cause is the republican party.

I realize the democrats haven't done crap since they gained the majority, but at least they stand for the people and not the super rich people who want nothing better than for people to not finish school and join the Army to protect their tax cuts.

The truth about the tax cuts proposed in this election can be found here:

    http://alchemytoday.com/obamataxcut/details.html

It seems pretty simple. Right now the democrats seems to want to talk about issues and what they would change while the republicans seems to only want to clouds everyones minds with petty crap like who called who a pig and that a mayor has so much more responsibility thtan a community organizer. The GOP was actually putting down community organizers while the whole theme of their convention was service. Doesn't anybody see how they just want to win regardless of how many lies they have to tell to do it? The lies is how the country got to the shape it is in and McCain and Palin support and have supported the methods used to get here.

The other side of the coin Wolfie is that all those wars generate tremendous income for the US from arms sales.

A lot of the specialised high tech input comes from needs generated by wars like Iraq and Afghanistan. So wars, as with space ventures, helps keep the US at the leading edge of technical innovation. That means export income, which is the best return, on expenditure, as it helps decrease the trade deficit.

I think, from memory, your arms industries employ about 5 million Americans in very well paid jobs.

Infrastructure spending may be one way to employ some of those people but unless the infrastructure can generate (eg road tools) an adequate return on expenditure it is a bit of a money trap in terms of maintaining employment.

So the argument against war is not a monetary or an economic one because wars are good for American jobs and export income and can only be based on moral or pacifist grounds.

  137. Incidentally here's a piece from the WSJ, admittedly a bit partisan but if your state is a bit stuffed you can choose a prosperous McCain style economics state or feeling you are too rich choose a less prosperous Obama style economics state. Here's a bit to give you itchy feet if you are in an Obama state or likely to live in an Obama America.

"Mr. Obama would stimulate the economy by increasing federal spending. Mr. McCain would stimulate the economy by cutting the corporate tax rate. Mr. Obama would expand unionism by denying workers the right to a secret ballot on the decision to form a union, and would dramatically increase the minimum wage. Mr. Obama would also expand the role of government in the economy, and stop reforms in areas like tort abuse.

The states have already tested the McCain and Obama programs, and the results are clear. We now face a national choice to determine if everything that has failed the families of Michigan, Ohio and Illinois will be imposed on a grander scale across the nation. In an appropriate twist of fate, Michigan and Ohio, the two states that have suffered the most from the policies that Mr. Obama proposes, have it within their power not only to reverse their own misfortunes but to spare the nation from a similar fate."

  141. When this post started a few days ago I admitted I was unemployed knowing that it would be the first thing attacked by the kind of people backing MCPAIN. Never-mind the facts that I'm actually just between contracts which is typical in my business and my line of work. I'm automatically seized upon as some sort of welfare case. Never even caring what the truth would actually be, let's attack first and worry about the truth if we win. "That explains a LOT." The kind of people that only care to win facts be damned are the kind of people America allowed to lead the last 8 years. I guess being a glutton for punishment for 8 years wasn't enough, let's go for 12, 16, hell "why not a 100?"

McCain is no longer a man deserving of the office he seeks. Those who follow him are only accepting that we as Americans must hate each other. McCain's own ambition to just BE President has revealed him to be a truly despicable human being. If Obama had made one of the remarks McCain gets to "joke" about, Obama would be out of politics. But because Obama only has one white parent, America seems to accept the obvious double standard on full display. In America it seems McCain, an angry old white man can do no wrong, and Obama, a hopeful younger half-black man can do no right. "That explains a LOT."

If enough American's have become dumb enough to fall for this bullshit then we deserve what MCPAIN will bring!
