Police brutality and human rights violations at the University of Puerto Rico
Watch the video* where the Puerto Rico Police abuse a handicapped American war veteran. He was arrested inside the Río Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, after he became aware of the abuse of the university students on strike. In minute 2 you can see the arrest, and later in minute 4:05 you see more abuse.
He is a heart patient and wears a leg prosthesis. Before his release, he was taken to a hospital for treatment after he convulsed and vomited on the police vehicle.
The government of Puerto Rico, led by Republican Governor Luis Fortuño, has been questioned by the ACLU for violating “the fundamental rights guaranteed by the first, fourth and fifth amendments to the Constitution of the United States, the Puerto Rico Constitution, and international human rights documents.”
