Web Letters: Are Afghan Lives Worth Anything?

I believe the Afghans are at least as worthy as the Vietnamese I helped in places like Plei Djereng and Di An.

They are definately not deserving of being abandoned to a brutal dictatorship that strongly believes that the answer to educating girls is to throw battery acid in their eyes.

If we withdraw from the assistance, what grounds would you find acceptable? How many little girls would you prefer to abandon?

There is a long history now of me posting this question, and having no answer from the authors or from the magazine. They seem to just wish it would go away, but it won't.

What a powerfully written piece. We need Mr. Engelhardt's voice on more articles about the sheer lunacy and barbaric cruelty of the war in Afghanistan.
