Realize also the incredible markup involved in retail sales, and that this is made worse if you buy retail using a credit card. Everything is basically overpriced now--cars, clothes, houses, and all the retail stuff at malls. Using credit props up inflated prices. Basic foods, oil, and energy such as natural gas and electricity are all headed up in price because of shortages and speculation, since traders are going to be playing their game with these commodities again. If we stop buying on credit, and shop sales, we can send a strong message, and put an end to retail markups (a dollar pair of Nike sneakers made in China selling here for $100, etc.) and get some consumer rationality into the economy again.
