  • The ongoing debate about whether torture is an effective means of gathering information is absurd. Theft is an effective means of gaining money, but we do not permit it. Deporting all Arabs and Muslims from the US might reduce the risk that there are sleeper terrorists among us, but we would never and should never consider it an acceptable means of risk-reduction. Has torture ever helped to illicit useful information? Surely, and this in no way proves that we should do it.
