Web Letters: Fighting for Our Health

In the Philadelphia area, there have been a dozen hospitals closed in the last few years, and parts of another twenty or so. There is another one in the newspapers today. This is true about many other cities!

Much of their complaint is that they are already being badly squeezed by low reimbursements from government, and that Obama's idea appears to be to squeeze more.

At this point, there is a great deal of difficulty getting prospective doctors into less specialized fields where the pay is too little.

Doctors, other medical people and their institutions need more money to do the job right.

Who else is there to take the money from?

Any program must be voluntary. We are not a fascist nation, yet.

Too overwhelmingly much of the proposerd finaancing is shifty, skanky and terrifyingly unreliable.

My favorite example is the "savings" from IT reform in the medical community. Since the wave of reform is already well advanced, there is increasingly less to be saved. My professional technogeek son laughs at the idea to start with.

We need to see accumulated savings "in the bank" before considering this as a source of funding.
