Web Letters: Bipartisan Bust

Obama is losing the popular argument, not on style but on substance, as seen by Mr. Santelli's magnificent "rant" performance. The administration needs to redirect its efforts to first and foremost benefit the people who are paying their mortgages, or have even already finished that struggle, before they tax the productive innocent to subsidize the wasteful minority. Some slack needs to be allowed for those who did behave responsibly but whose long-term jobs are casualties, too.

The key idicator of Obama's success is whether the millions of "little people" who make up a very large part of the stock market will "vote" their confidence or no confidence with their cash. Unlike throw-away polling, that process is critical and can't be ignored or fudged.

Those who have a phone or a computer should call or e-mail the offices of Snow and Collins and congratulate them on the courage that it took to vote for the recovery act. The negative phone calls and e-mails must be terrible. There is an element in the GOP, presently the majority, that really belongs to the Dark Ages.
