  • I saw Jones on C-Span one time talking to a civilian group, and he knows how to turn on the charm. However, I don't believe NATO needs to assume the "white man's burden" again, with energy wars or forays into Africa. Whoever controls the various oil rich countries will sell it. As bin Laden himself once remarked, what else are they going to do with it, drink it? We have some oil within the US and coal that, if push comes to a shove, can be converted into fuel. We can do without the Middle East. However, there are enough intelligent people in the "global South" whom we can work with on various issues, and we don't need any imperial adventures. Western leaders have created a recession/depression and cannot lead their own countries. They lack the competence to help an old lady across the road. I believe the "real" Democratic Party will soon be in opposition to the corporate democrats in the Obama administration.
