  • This article is particularly pertinent right now, as military analysts are arguing in favor of pacification-type programs as an element in winning the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, specifically citing the successes of the Phoenix Program in killing NLF guerillas and activists in Vietnam. Never mind that thousands of civilians were also killed, or that we shouldn't have been in Vietnam in the first place, or in Iraq or Afghanistan now.
