  • What a fantastic article, but it's true, John McCain has sold his soul to the neoconservatives, Ron Paul is the only genuine conservative in the Republican Party.

We can not let him be our president, we have to look to the alternative. Obama may not be a small government advocate, but at least he's less likely to drive America into another costly war.

  • The real McCain is a hot-tempered egomaniac. As such he sometimes hits the right target and sometimes the wrong one. But no matter for him: despite the dislike of many Republicans, his age and his boring delivery, he will win. Why? He is running against a black man. That is sufficient.

Had he been running against Hillary, a rerun of Evita, the cult of personality mascarading as populism, according to Camille Paglia's brilliant assessment of her, McCain would have a different sort of problem. He would also probably beat her.

McCain's improvisation is probably what Americans like about him. He is not tied down to political or religious ideologies. He can be all things to all men, even to women.

FDR also was an improviser without any fixed commitments and look what he accomplished. McCain could be the new FDR.
