  • What do you get when you combine "the exposé of the life of [an] early Pink Floyd member," "the decision to nuke Hiroshima and Nagasaki," "trad[ing] US missiles in Turkey for Soviet missiles in Cuba" and Maureen Dowd? I don't know, and I don't think Alterman does either.

  • If Mr. Tibbets was referring only to US servicemen, then a million would be an exaggeration. When one takes into account all lives spared by the surrender of the Japanese after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, including American servicemen, POWs, Japanese civilians and the captive peoples of the Japanese Empire, a million is not a gross exaggeration.
