Sounds like Ernie tried a play from the Dubya book (the pardons and all). Perhaps he didn't realize that antiwar and anti-BS sentiment would be on the rise in poorer, more rural states that get progressively dumped on by the administration they put in power.

Even though the good people of Kentucky rid themselves of a worthless incumbent, by no means are they are going to let their conservative ways take a back seat to a perceived progressive agenda. Please note: here in the South, both Republicans and Democrats are conservatives.
