  • Another member of the House of Representatives who has voted each year to close the School of the Americas is Republican presidential candidate and Congressman Ron Paul. The vote was 218 to 188 in the 109th Congress (2006), so it is getting closer to winning passage finally.

Ron Paul, however, is one of the few Republicans who has voted consistently to close the torture school at Fort Benning, Georgia, and is the only Republican presidential candidate to endorse closing SOA immediately.
