Historically, business interests have supported the military forces and the police in order to protect property. It was no accident that the British Navy became the senior service to protect trade. Even when private enterprise controlled colonies, we see the East India company in India replicate the state with the Indian army and a small navy. These were standing armies of trained men.

You do not put untrained groups of people who are, at best, only familiar with small unit tactics in a combat. These are not armies! They are gangs! Without command and control, armies become gangs and are of no use on the battlefield. It is particularly interesting that with free trade, a weak state and a weakened military, business interests have no state to really protect their property or lives. China, to some degree, is their sponsor, but as a state lacks the global reach to offer any protection. It is really only a source of cheap labor. The global economy is a house of cards.
