  • The C.H.I.P debate on subsidized healthcare for children has left me rather irked and annoyed. During the last three years, I have supported my three-person family on an income averaging $21,200 per year. Proposed household subsidies in Bush's program would go to a very generous $51,300 per year. Meanwhile, the Democrats more expensive ideas are just plain ridiculous: $72,300 in New Jersey, and $82,600 in New York. Why should taxes be raised from everyone else to funnel our money to these rather wealthier people?

  • I say the money Congress wants to allocate to the states should be used to help small and midsize businesses subsidize their healthcare plans for their workers. With that money, these businesses can form co-ops (or an association) and negoiate their healthcare platform. The added benefits for the both the employee and employer would be a reduction in sick time, lost wages and company costs.
