  • Congratulations to Stuart Klawans on receiving the "Oscar of Writing." Movies being our "quintessential art form," I'm thrilled to have this first-time opportunity to "Bletter" rather than bleat my best wishes to one so eminently capable of consolidating Chaplin's charitable chutzpah and Griffith's classicism with Borat's plangent populism and Eastwood's progressive patriotism.

    You ROCK, Stuart!

And using a profound quote I typically find in the pages of our esteemed weekly, The Nation, this from the great Susan Sontag: "literature IS self-criticism", I would suggest Stuart's providing us readers with multi-colored lens to better appreciate cinema encourages even greater self-awareness and understanding among "we the people" than occurred during the salad days of the literary arts.
