  • This article is very insightful, but it fails to address the fact that many times the liberal American Jews fail to recognize the "middle ground." In other words, rejection of mainstream Jewish opinion doesn't have to mean taking a diametrically opposed view. All too often we hear a liberal Jew opposing Israeli policies while trying to justify the actions of the Palestinian leadership. We must oppose Olmert, the settlements and all other hard-line rightist views, while at the same time understanding that at this point in time the Palestinians do not want to negotiate and therefor unilateralism is our only choice. Also, I was sick to my stomach to learn of American Jews who opposed Israel's right to counterattack the Hezbollah last summer. Pr. Morris of BGU in Beersheva has rightfully claimed that in the Palestinian national movement has always been about complete rejection of Israel, and more American Jews should wake up to that fact.
