The president addressed the country about the task of avoiding the “fiscal cliff.” He enthusiasticly committed to "work with Democrats and Republicans." So we are now on notice that President Obama considers himself a mediator between the political parties, not a representative of the party for which he ran and which elected him.
Only the voters, through their elected representatives, can hold the president to the principles he ran on. Better for us all to go off that cliff now than to live with a deal that sells out the president’s loyal constituency: the poor, the elderly, the infirm the young folks looking for work and the middle-class working folks, so that “tax reform” along the line of Romney’s is enacted.
