Dave Zirin, The Nation‘s sports columnist, appears on Rachel Maddow to attempt to steer the Tiger Woods buzz away from his crash and onto his questionable endorsements. “Some of us try to be critical of how athletes use their fame,” he says, arguing that all the new media attention on Woods should, for starters, focus on his giant golf course in Dubai–a place whose human rights violations and excessive financial waste don’t make it the best place to be associated with. “He should be challenged for not taking a political stand,” says Zirin, hoping that something except gossip might come out of this latest media onslaught.
