Chris Hayes, The Nation‘s DC editor, weighs in on Countdown about the Stupak amendment that was added to the house healthcare bill. Hayes admits he’s “infuriated” by the last-minute add-on that prohibits coverage for abortion in both government-funded plans and in subsidized private plans for the uninsured. Commenting on the diminishing hope that this provision will be stripped from the Senate healthcare bill, he says, “It’s hard for [Democrats] to say ‘trust us’ right now’ after this happened…all we have to go on right now is a wink and a nod and that’s not necessarily enough.” As shown on this clip, all we really have to go on is Obama’s remarks against adding anything that will modify the status quo, and hope that he fulfills that promise.
