Between tragedy at the Tennessee Valley Authority, our government-built roads (which displaced private mass transit) choking the environment and the economy, and the slow-motion death of the oh-so-friendly-with-government automobile industry, it's interesting that The Nation doesn't make the connection that these are all outgrowths of FDR's original New Deal, and the era of massive government intervention that he ushered in. What horrors and unintended consequences can we expect half a century hence from Obama's new New Deal?
