I read somewhere that when Margaret Thatcher was asked what was her greatest political achievement, she said the New Labor Party. The British stock market's greatest fear is not who is elected, but it doesn't like a "hung" multiparty parliament. I don't know who can take credit for the New Democratic Party on the Republican side. However, failing to have a majority, both major parties love a Senate that is "hung" by its own rules. I have been watching Quest Means Business on CNNI, and one pundit on the program today thought an election victory depended who had the best spin.
It was interesting that Brown was proposing that to sell a British company to foreign ownership, two-thirds of the shareholders must approve the sale. He seems to be looking for a "hung" sale. With German reluctance to bail out Greece, the European Union, along with its relative globalization, is weakening.
