The (deliberately) funny campaign videos were all on the Obama side of the 2012 race and each, in its own way, may have helped him (a little) in gaining victory. Here are my picks for the funniest of the lot, and see my new ebook on the race, Tricks, Lies, and Videotape, for much, much more. Here’s how I recorded them at the time. And as video #12, we will count Clint chatting with chair:

Sarah Silverman Wants to ‘Scissors’ Sheldon?

You may recall comic/actress Sarah Silverman’s bold offer in 2008 to go to Florida to help Obama by wooing old Jewish people. Now she returns with this video, offering to perform a certain sex act—think, “scissoring”—with Romney’s sugar daddy, Sheldon Adelson, if he will merely donate to Obama instead. She claims this will give him “bragging rights” with his billionaire friends—to have had a “Jewess” (and a fairly large breasted one) in this way. She even demonstrates—and there’s a website. Potentially not safe for work—or for Sarah!

Randy Newman: Dreaming of a White President

The often-satirical songwriter—who can forget “Short People” and “Let’s Drop the Big One Now”?—is a big Obama backer, and has now produced a new single: “I’m Dreaming of a White President.” “He won’t be the brightest, perhaps/ But he’ll be the whitest/ And I’ll vote for that.”

Sarah Silverman vs. Voter ID ‘Bullshit’

Sarah Silverman, who gave us classic campaign ad aimed at Jews in Florida in 2008—and then the infamous “scissoring Adelson” video this year—returns with very off-color spot, re fighting back against moves proposing harsh new Voter ID laws. One idea: take Nana to get a gun license then she’ll be able to vote. Also directs viewers to how to make sure you can vote in your state.

Homer Simpson Votes for Romney

Yes, it’s true, as the “leaked” segment from upcoming Simpsons reveals. Along the way we get shots at the Voter ID care, ignorant white male voters, Romney’s “magic underwear” and six wives all named Ann, and his missing tax returns (which show the government paid HIM for five years).

Samuel L. Jackson to Obama Backers: ‘Wake the Fuck Up’

The hot-talking actor backs Obama, by addressing young folks and others, “Wake the Fuck Up.” And he’s not warning about snakes on the plane, unless he means Romney, Ryan, Rove, Trump…

From Andy Cobb and Second City: Behind the scenes at that Paul Ryan workout photoshoot. Although, you know, the actual published photos were funny enough.

Dunham: Some ‘Girls’ Talk for Obama

Lena Dunham, creator and star of hit HBO series Girls, cuts a cool (now controversial, getting hit by the right) video urging young folks to make “the first time” beautiful, pick the right guy, etc.… in vote for president. Right-wingers, such as Erick Erickson, up in arms (without tattoos) over the ad. “Yeah, vote for Obama—and you will get fucked.”

Top Film Director Backs Romney as Zombie-Friendly

In one of the funniest ads of the year, film director Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers) professes to be a former Obama backer who has switched to Romney because he is likely to bring on the “zombie apocalypse.” And the way he describes it, yeah, could be.

November 2
Monty for Mitt

We brought you Homer Simpson’s Romney endorsement a few weeks back—and now he’s earned the backing of fellow 1-percenter Montgomery Burns.
