The article discusses the author's views on the alleged political repression by the U.S. government after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and its so-called chilling effect throughout the country. Since the Department of Homeland Security began its color-coded alerts in 2002, it has never designated the country to be at less than yellow, representing a significant risk of terror attack. The author believes that the government's alleged bullying, silencing and threats of violence of those who dissent its so-called war against terrorism, reveal a political and cultural shift that recalls some of the country's darkest days.
