Paying for Apartheid

The article looks at the developments on two lawsuits filed in the U.S. against several multinational corporations including, General Motors, IBM and Citigroup for aiding and abetting apartheid. The plaintiffs for the lawsuit include several apartheid victims such as author Dennis Brutus and Sigqibo Mpendulo, whose sons were murdered by security police. On May 19, 2004, federal judge John Sprizzo will make his substantive rulings on the initial lawsuit. On May 28, 2004, a federal panel is expected to decide whether the lawsuits should be consolidated.
