Adrian Lyne's "Lolita" is going to shoot first and ask questions later, if it could be said to at all. This version of the novel ranked fourth by the Modern Library-which airs several times this month on Showtline-takes the ravings of its lunatic narrator, lover of pre-adolescent "nymphets" and killer of the man who steals his beloved Lo from him, as its objective reality, and his wheedling defense gets turned into a full-length dramatic rendering, like some Hard Copy re-enactment. When no American film distributor would pick up Lolita, executives who spurned it said it just wasn't very good, and of course they were right.
