The first week of December 1997 and the patriotic fervor it brings, aroused by the "date which will live in infamy" serves as an annual reminder to Asian-Americans of link in the public mind to events in Asia. This is due in no small measure to the peculiarly American way in which the media portray as eternal foreigners, regardless of their pedigrees. During World War II, the perceived genetics of loyalty sent 120,000 Japanese-American civilians into ten U.S. concentration camps while Italian and German-Americans kept their homes and citizenship. One might conclude from the news that the corruption in the campaign finance system is caused by Asians and Asian-Americans.
