Al Checchi, 48-year-old entrepreneur knows very well that only 1 percent or so of Californians have heard of him. But he sees no reason why fifteen months from now, a majority of the state won't elect him governor. According to Checchi's strategist Darry Sragow, the only option left open for Checchi is to substantially outspent every other candidate. After a spectacular business career, Checchi has piled up a half-billion-plus dollar in the bank. And shortly after he formally announces his run in the Democratic primary he will start spending as much as $50 million of that booty in his quest to take over from a term-retired Governor Pete Wilson.
