The article presents information about Victor Nunez's new film "Ulee's Gold" in which Ulee Jackson, played by Peter Fonda in a K-Mart shirt and purely functional wire-rim glasses walks bone-tired into the kitchen of his little house to find his daughter-in-law Christine Dunford puttering about. Ulee's Gold is crammed with incidents, some of them life-threatening but there is a great calm at the heart of the film. One can get such a calm only when all of the characters in a film turn out to be interesting, when the house can be inhabited, when the glass of water turns out to be full. Other movies discussed in the article are "Underground" and "Contempt."
