The article presents information about two books "One Hell of a Gamble: Khrushchev, Castro, and Kennedy, 1958-1964," by Aleksandr Fursenko and Timothy Naftali and "Foreign Relations of the United States, 1961-1963: Cuban Missile Crisis and Aftermath," vol. 11, edited by Edward C. Keefer, Charles S. Sampson and Louis J. Smith. The centerpiece of the book by Fursenko and Naftali is the Cuban missile crisis. The book also makes a dramatic contribution to understanding the U.S. policy towards Moscow under President John F. Kennedy.
