Once again, the journal "The Nation," announces the winners of Discovery/The Nation, the Joan Leiman Jacobson Poetry Prize. Now in its twenty-third year, it is an annual contest for poets whose work has not been published previously in book form. The new winners are: James Kimbrell, V. Penelope Pelizzon, Peter Pereira and Mark Sullivan. This year's judges are Emily Hiestand, Lynne MacMahon and Robert Phillips. In this competition, whose manuscripts are judged anonymously, distinguished former winners include Katha Pollitt, Mary Jo Salter, Sherod Santos and David St John. This year's winners will read their poems at Discovery/The Nation'97 on April 14, 1997, at The Unterberg Poetry Center, in the New York City.
