The article questions the efficacy of the 1996 telecommunication Act. It was supposed to improve products and services and lower cable and telephone charges for consumers. In the long run, the telecommunications Act would usher in the Information Age, an era of unprecedented human freedom and economic prosperity. But none of the above promises have materialized so far. It criticizes the lack of transparency in the entire process and the absence of proper public debate before coming out with such an important legislation, which has a bearing on the lives of the citizens.
