The article reveals the political activities of the American Federation of Labor & Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). AFL-CIO President John Sweeney declared the federation's support for the war goals of U.S. President George W. Bush. The organization also played a key role in the U.S. campaign to destabilize Chile, led by the administration of former U.S. President Richard Nixon and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Concerns were raised about the organization's current activities abroad in light with its past involvement in political issues.
