The article focuses on full page advertisements appearing in African American newspapers in the U.S. depicting Nigeria as country with a thriving free press, a population largely supportive of a government trying to make the transition to civilian rule and struggling to find its own kind of democracy. Behind the aggressive "advertorial" and media campaign being waged by National Newspaper Publishers Association, a trade organization of African American newspapers, is the Nigerian government aided by an army of the U.S. public relations firms, lobbyists, front groups and African American media placement company.
