The article presents the views of Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao, commander of the forces of the East Timorese National Liberation Front, on the resistance movement against the Indonesian dictatorship. On the Indonesian invasion, Xanana states that, Dili, (East Timor), was under attack from the air and naval gunships. There was sacking of the city, the plundering of everything from taps and bathtubs to windowpanes and doors. He said that in the early years American Bronco and Skyhawk aircraft relentlessly bombed and machine-gunned the camps and wells of the refugee population.
