This article presents information about the 1995 Cannes Films Festival, held in Cannes, France. Films by nature are the most transparent and evanescent of art forms, the one best suited to revealing the motion of people's lives turns instead into a kind of shaman's boneyard of late capitalism. Except, of course, in the work of filmmakers such as Ken Loach in "Land and Freedom, Terence Davies in "The Neon Bible," Jim Jarmusch in "Dead Man," and Emir Kusturica in "Underground," a film that now has not only the Palme d'Or but also the distinction of actually being about Yugoslavia.
