The article presents information on various social and political developments in the United states. It is reported that, for years now, ever since U.S. President Bill Clinton made welfare reform central to his campaign, United States has been engaged in a debate about the architecture of liberalism disguised as a debate about poverty, "opportunity" and the economic future of the country. As Republicans bay for demolition and Democrats bleat about major renovation, the left is simply invited to defend this very unsound structure. Moreover, it is reported that, Jim Ramstad, one of those scarce Republican moderates, stepped off the House floor on February 28 shaking his head. The noisy collapse of the balanced budget amendment in the Senate distracted attention from the House vote on the bill, one of the most poisonous concoctions of the contract.
