This article presents information on political conditions of several nations. Right now, President of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide and Lavalas, the political movement he represents, have a better chance of restoring democracy to Haiti, at any time since the 1991 coup. And the deal is not yet done. Even in the grisly annals of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the series of events that began with the abduction by Islamist militants of Israeli soldier Nahshon Waxman, have taken a particularly bloody toll. After the kidnapping, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin--convinced that the soldier was being held in Gaza-placed the responsibility for his "safe return" squarely on Arafat and his fledgling Palestinian authority, but after the attack in Tel Aviv Foreign Minister Shimon Peres refused to be drawn into accusations.
