The article presents information on various art exhibitions. A 1964 film "Empire" is a film of epic length-eight hours and five minutes and it is marked by a singular lack of incident: The camera was aimed for as long as the film lasts at the Empire State Building, and what one sees is the illuminated tower of that monumental edifice against the night sky. "Empire" thwarts a natural expectation through an act of relentless artistic will. The only artist who has made a serious artistic investment in the slide and its possibilities is the Irish artist James Coleman, whose work is the subject of a yearlong three-part exhibition at the Dia Center for the Arts.
