This article focuses on a book "Harold Laski: A Life on the Left," by Isaac Kramnick and Barry Sherman. This book is the subject of this excellent new biography. Harold Laski, the most prominent intellectual leader of the left in interwar Great Britain, he contributed much to shaping those currents of opinion that brought labor to office in 1945 and enabled it to construct the modern British welfare state. He wrote ceaselessly for the popular press and for journals, and his books both for scholarly colleagues and the general public were widely read.
