The article focuses on managed health care in the U.S. Americans traditionally equate access to health insurance with access to health care providers and reimbursement for their treatments and services. Managed care does not guarantee access to health care. The main goal of the managed care is to maintain the profitability of some of the most lucrative corporations in the U.S. to achieve this goal these corporation apply various mechanisms. One of the mechanism is the denial of free choice of doctor and hospital and the substitution of a select group of providers who are generally chosen by the criteria of cost and their willingness to follow a managed care plan's guidelines on which services are appropriate and when.
