The article presents the views of the author on the U.S. President Richard M. Nixon. According to the author, he was the last leader of the free world who controlled events rather than being controlled by them, who acted in his own person than as the tool and mouthpieces of organized economic and political interests. Nixon was personally responsible for a staggering amount of damage. The only good thing Nixon did, in fact, was to make the Watergate tapes, which revealed to millions of hitherto trusting Americans how power was actually exercised, and what sort of people held it.
