This article focuses on the book "James Baldwin: A Biography," written by David Leeming. This new biography, serves as an important addition to the life of this homegrown American prophet, a book most important for its heretofore undisclosed facts and insights into a turbulent yet instructive life and mind. This biography remains faithful to this well-known epic story, recounting the hand-to-mouth days of a Harlem tenement and writer James Baldwin's public school education. This book is neither an exhaustive archival biography of the likes of writer Joseph Blotner's massive two-volume work on William Faulkner.
