This article presents information on the book "Hard Bodies: Hollywood Masculinity in the Reagan Era," by Susan Jeffords. The author in her engaging and provocative book Hard Bodies, traces the critical interconnections between U.S. President Ronald Reagan's policies and rhetoric and the Rambo and Indiana Jones movies, Die Hard, Robocop, The Terminator, Lethal Weapon and their sequels. In an often deft interweaving of popular and political culture, Jeffords shows how Reaganism and these macho adventure films gave each other sustenance as the "Reagan Revolution" sought to put men back where they belonged: on a throne, holding a bazooka and talking tough while exposing their big, beefy, American chests.
