This article presents information on the book "American Jihad: Islam After Malcolm X," by Stephen Barboza. Barboza has written an unconventional account of a little-explored subject. One part personal confession and three parts oral history, his book owes a debt to Studs Terkel. Unfortunately, while Terkel was able to weave the oral histories of very different individuals into a narrative, Barboza presents more of a smorgasbord of American Islam than coherent commentary on it. Comprising more than fifty interviews plus occasional commentary by Barboza himself, the book offers a diverse slice of Muslim America.
