This article presents information on the book "The Rage of a Privileged Class: Why Are Middle-Class Blacks Angry? Why Should America Care?," by Ellis Cose. What Cose's book brings home is that the barriers of caste can be just as brutal in air-conditioned offices as on inner-city streets, all the more so when those people are talked about who have paid their dues. The backdrop to the book is how race continues to define the most respected institutions, a condition that is seldom acknowledged and usually denied.
