This article focuses on the play "Three Tall Women," by Edward Albee, an American playwright. "Three Tall Women" is largely a portrait of Albee's late, very estranged adoptive mother at 92, though the character querulously insists she's 91. Albee has a little problem as a dramatist: He abhors plots. With the entirely intelligible "Three Tall Women," Albee is evidently mature enough not to crave our hatred. Maybe Albee doesn't even hate his mother anymore. What's more, Albee is back in tune with his times. The value of "Three Tall Women," lies in the light it sheds on Albee's life and other work.
