On cable television's recent "Comic Relief" fundraiser to aid the poor, Robin Williams said that if U.S. President Bill Clinton can mend the economy and put people back to work, he doesn't care if Clinton also f***s chickens. Williams added, in obvious reference to the Whitewater scandal, that he would support the President even if he did move some money from place to place. Williams and others who expect Clinton to deal seriously with the structural causes of poverty and unemployment will be disappointed. The best insight into what the Clintons were about was provided in an article in the newspaper "New York Times," by Jeff Gerth in 1992 that traced Clinton's entanglement with the Stephens family empire, which owns the largest chunk of the Arkansas economy, including natural gas, real estate and finance.
