The article presents information on several motion picture videos. In the film "The Match Factory Girl," directed by Aki Kaurismäki, the protagonist Iris makes her way home through dingy streets to the tiny flat she shares with her sullen mother and her mother's brutish lover. Iris decides to buy a party dress after visiting a dancehall. This means her weekly pay envelope, which she routinely gives to her mother, is short 500 Finnmarkka, Her mother's lover hits Iris in the face, but she does not return the dress. She goes out to another dancehall and there flirts with a stranger and then goes back to his apartment.
