This article critically evaluates the book "The Cost of Talent: How Executives and Professionals Are Paid and How It Affects America," by Derek Bok. This book is considered as one of the defining books in the current debate about America's economic future. This book is supposed to critically analyze the presidency of Bill Clinton, the President of the U.S., highlighting the declining fortunes of the upper and upper-middle classes. Bok also employs his lawyerly talents by taking on the popular arguments in defense of growing inequality. By focusing on key occupations and demonstrating how each has increased its share of the economic pie over time, he also provides a historical context that avoids the economists' often-arid obscurantisms.
